"UPGRADED to THE KRAKEN!!
Terrorize the oceans, and be feared by all! (Release W to use whirlpool ability!)
"

The Kraken is a tier 15 Ocean animal in Mope.io, and is equivalent of the DragonKing Crab, Phoenix, T-REX, The Bigfoot, Yeti, The Snowman, Snowgirl and Pterodactyl. It was released in-game on December 5, 2016.

Technical[]

Appearance[]

The Kraken[]

The Kraken is one of the largest animals in Mope.io, dwarfed only by the T-REX, Monsters and Black Dragon. Its body is sushi-green with eight tentacles curving outwards. Each tentacle has about 9 darker suction cups. It has a slightly darker "tail" with gill slits at the side and a bold large caudal fin stretching to the tip of the tail. Its eyes are large with a ring around each.

Chromatic Kraken[]

The Chromatic Kraken is nearly identical to the normal Kraken. However, its color is modified to a light cyan, its caudal fins are wavy, it has a wavy pattern towards the upper part of its body, and the tentacles are more curved than the Kraken's. It is slightly longer than the Kraken and has slightly larger pupils.

Golden Kraken[]

The Golden Kraken is a gold version of the Kraken. It's eyes are curved inward, making it look angry. It has a darker line running through its body, and has thicker and straighter tentacles than the Kraken. The suction cups on the tentacles have a small highlight.

Squishy Kraken[]

The Squishy Kraken is bright green with 4 short tentacles. It has stitch lines, a larger head, and a small yellow warning tag on its left caudal fin.

Cthulhu Kraken[]

The Cthulhu Kraken is a deep dark teal color. Its angry eyes are hidden by a wavy patch of skin above and are in darker eye sockets, each eye containing a red highlight. 4 pairs of long tentacles are in front of its body with many suction cups. Its back has darker spots and a blue cadual fin on the tail. Two massive aqua blue fins are located beside its tail, gradienting to a seafoam green.

Hydrothoth Kraken[]

The Hydrothoth Kraken is a fleshy teal circle fading to navy blue on its 6 tentacle extremities. It has a wide purple mouth full of fangs at its front and two sideways jaws beside its mouth, somewhat resembling the Tartarus Rex. It has magenta eyes of various sizes next to its mouth, on its jaws, and close to the center of the body. Its tentacles have a purple underside. The Hydrothoth Kraken has long, dark purple spikes towards its short stubby tail and dripping magenta feelers.

Giant Squid[]

The Giant Squid is a dull pink, spotted creature with an elongated "tail" that forms a sort of cap over the rest of the animal. Its caudal fin is large and pointy. The Giant Squid's arms have an off-white underside covered in spines. It has two additional pinker tentacles that bend back towards its tail to reveal the spiked suction cups.

Classic Kraken[]

The Classic Kraken has a squid-like body and colored an almost sushi-green. It has eight tentacles, six of them being a shade darker than the rest of the scheme. The Kraken also has a large, triangular tail(although technically its head), embellished by two caudal fins - one on each side. Its eyes are quite small in comparison to the Animal and look to the left.

Strategy[]

  • Refrain from leaving the Ocean, as the player does not need to leave it to successfully level up. While in there, use the "Whirlpool" ability when there is prey around to trap them.
  • To gain XP, the best way is to kill and eat other players; depending on the population of the server the player is in, prey and other tier 15 apexes should be plentiful in the Ocean. Farming food will barely help at apex tier.
  • Dive and hide under a hill or rock, go inside a Plankton Bush (if it is large enough/the player is small enough), and wait for prey to come near. When they do, come out and use the "Whirlpool" ability to trap and eat them. Suck conches off islands to eat them, and get high XP.
    • The Kraken's easy prey includes the shark, Eagle (do not make the mistake of confusing it with its rare variant the Golden Eagle), Hippo, Rhino, and most animals below tier 12.
      • Other animals can be a bit more problematic due to their abilities. For example, Blue Whales, Elephants and Killer Whales can be harder to kill, as their ability can save them by stunning and distancing the player. It is still recommended to try and eat them for a massive XP gain. Another potential strategy is to wait for them to surface and use their ability, before trapping them in the Whirlpool and eating them for an easy meal.
  • As for the player's tier 15 equivalents, any Dragon, Pterodactyl or Phoenix in the Ocean biome is fair game, as they are quite weak in water. Fighting any other tier 15, 16 or 17 animal in the 1v1 arena is also an option, however, this should only be done if the player is confident in their ability to do a 1v1.
    • The Phoenix especially is a good target as they are slow, cannot dive, and their Fire Tornadoes will be destroyed in the Ocean. All these weaknesses will also contribute to a considerable loss in lava for the Phoenix, so try to slow it down if the player can see one in the Ocean.
    • Pterodactyls are also weakened in the Ocean, and will be slowed and take damage over time due to the ocean being too cold. However, it can climb hills and rocks, and can dive, so Pterodactyls can be a little harder to kill.
      • The Pterodactyl will take freezing damage periodically, which will stop its ability, and is sluggish at moving in Water. Make sure it doesn't find an Island or Hill/Rock as it can wait the player out while it regenerates its Energy.
        • Pterodactyls cannot regenerate their Energy if at 25% or less, indicated by a peach dot next to its name, so if it's at that state and tries to wait on an Island/Rock/Sandhill, it will eventually die.
    • The Dragon is the hardest to kill out of these three because they can dive and move faster, but still can be killed easily as their ability is ineffective in water.
  • Avoid the T-REX near beaches at all costs, as the player can easily die to dehydration if the T-REX uses their "Jaw Bite" ability on The Kraken and drag them out of the water. Even in deeper water where the player will have superior movement, the T-REX's ability is still very powerful, so be careful.
  • When very deep in the Ocean, the player can use their Whirlpool to damage a T-Rex from a safe distance, as they are slow in water.
    • Dive to avoid being bite-dragged on, as T-Rexes are still able to inflict a load of damage when near the player, regardless of their location Wait until the player's ability recharges and repeat this process! The T-Rex will die soon later.
    • Even temporarily allying with a King Crab is good strategy, as its physical force and power can trap the Rex, erode away at its health and delay any escape for it.
  • It is not the best idea to fight a King Crab. Their ability, while dealing the same amount of damage, it can be used more often, and can kill the player.
  • Avoid Sea Monsters at all costs. Their ability is similar to The Kraken's, and to be on the receiving end of such an ability is not easy to get out of.
    • Since Sea Monsters pose a large threat, they are essentially a tier 16 Kraken with more prey – it would be safer to cross oceans to whichever one has less (or preferably devoid of) Sea Monsters.
    • Both Sea Monsters and Krakens are limited to the shore, and a Kraken is easier to hunt than King Crab, so just stay a safe distance away from them.
  • Be wary of Golden Eagles, Shahbazes, Golden Shahbazes, and potentially Pakistani Vultures. All of the animals mentioned can grab the player and put them on dry land.
    • To avoid these, residing in the deeper Ocean towards the vertical ends of the Minimap and away from Beaches should ensure that should the aforementioned animals grab the player, they will be unable to drag the player onto dry land.
    • If the player believes they can kill the rare, especially Pakistani Vultures as they are very slow in water and take freezing damage over time, attempt to use the Whirlpool deep in the Ocean, like the player would on normal prey. Repeat until the rare dies for a nice coin payout.
  • Another riskier farming technique is to go to a Land lake, and eat Ducks and Geese. However, Ducks provide minimal XP, so this strategy should not be heavily relied upon to level up.
    • The main reason to hunt in lakes is waiting for Land- and Arctic-residing animals to enter a lake carelessly so that the player can use the Kraken's whirlpool them.
    • Dino Monsters, Bison and Markhors in lakes can be problematic due to their abilities being able to toss the player into the air ("Charge", "Gores" and "Headbang", respectively), making the player lose water. Avoid these creatures' abilities at all costs.
    • Giant Scorpions can also be a threat if they migrate from the Desert into a Land lake, as their "Grab and Sting" ability can cause the player to shiver. Since lakes do not have whirlpools, this can be detrimental to the player's health bar.
  • If the player believes they are capable, challenging another tier 15 animal, or a tier 16/17 animal (though there is a higher chance of these players generally being more skilled) to a 1v1 battle. However, it will be harder to do so since Krakens move slowly in the arena and drain water fast. See the 1v1 article for tips.
  • When hunting, the players should always be careful when using whirlpools near Conches or Healing Stones because they either push the player away or block the player from biting their target, making it more difficult to kill prey. It is recommended to hunt away from them for a better chance of killing prey, especially since Healing Stones heal animals on contact and therefore tend to negate the whirlpool's initial damage.
    • It is possible to hunt with them but the player needs to be at a precise angle and they must have good timing.

Trivia[]

  • The Kraken's graphics are reminiscent to the Squid's, but are greenish, much larger, darker, and with more tentacles
  • It is the only animal to have the entire changelog belonging to itself. ("BEWARE THE KRAKEN!").
  • When underwater, it shows 4 tentacles, to warn players that there is a high-tier animal. The other animals that have a special look while underwater are the T-Rex, Blue Whale, King Crab, Sea Monster, Killer Whale, Shark and The Snowman.
  • The Yeti, Dragon, Kraken are all mythical creatures, and are the third to final tier predators of the food chain in their respective biomes, but are beaten by the Monsters and Black Dragon, which are other mythical creatures.
  • The Kraken was the first animal with "The" in its name.
  • The Kraken has a dive time of around 90 seconds, which is the longest diving time of all animals. However, the Sea Monster is a close second.
  • The Giant Squid Skin is the only skin to have been added and removed on the same day. It was removed because it was a Skin made by former designer Syed.[1] This formerly made it the rarest Skin to have in the game due to how brief its inclusion was, but was re-added.
    • Its price was 2078 Mopecoins. Oddly enough, it kept this price with its reintroduction.
    • The Giant Squid, along with the 2020 Halloween Skins, was one of the only skins to have a single temporary appearance in the store before disappearing.
