The River is a small section of flowing water that was introduced to Mope.io on March 24, 2017. There are two horizontal rivers in the Land section of the map in each server, typically located on different sides of the Volcano; they connects the two Oceans, allowing Ocean Animals to easily move from ocean to ocean, Additional vertical rivers that lead into the Arctic and Desert biomes were released in the "Season 2 (Release 1)" update on February 1, 2022.

Technical[]

  • There are two main rivers on the map that are normally each located on different sides of the Volcano, horizontally. Branching off each of these rivers, is a shorter vertical river that leads into the Arctic and Desert biome map walls, respectively.
  • Each River has a current that pushes most animals and food in the direction of the current. Animals that move in sync with the current will become faster, while creatures that move in the opposite direction of the current will experience difficulty moving at a normal pace.
  • Rivers will grow and shrink over time, revealing river banks when the river is smaller. Creatures that walk on river banks will experience decreased movement speed.
    • The current of the river will become less intense when the river shrinks. Animals will also be unable to dive in the river at the final shrinking point.
  • Brown Mushrooms, Red Mushrooms and Starfishes will spawn specifically near and in rivers. Other food sources may be dragged into rivers by the current.
  • Bubbles can be found at the starting and ending point of all rivers, except for the map wall where the vertical rivers begin.

Appearance[]

The River is a dark blue stream of water, that is the same color as the water in the Ocean biome. Multiple evenly-spaced faint current lines of a lighter shade can be seen in rivers as well.

Strategy[]

  • Rivers are the main way of Ocean animals moving to a different ocean, and are useful for players that have over-farmed in a particular ocean.
  • When Ocean animals go through rivers, they must take extreme caution. Both predators and prey of the Land biome, and any non-aquatic biome, can attempt to push sea creatures out of the river and onto dry land.
    • To avoid this happening, it is best to use rivers when they are completely full. Rivers that have shrunk will be risky, especially for larger animals such as the Blue Whale, King Crab, The Kraken and Sea Monster. Often large hills and rocks will completely block a section of the river, so the player will have to dive underneath it; using dive-time wisely is crucial.
    • Alternatively, if the player is a non-Ocean animal, they can camp at rivers and push Ocean animals out of the river through use of Special Abilities.
      • If the player chooses to do this, depending on the animal they are facing, they should use a Special Ability that inflicts knockback or can physically alter the position of the aquatic animal to beach them. Hiding under hills and rocks that are in the middle of a river to do this will ensure highest chances of success, as the player can ambush unsuspecting Ocean animals before they dive under the hill.
  • Rivers are also useful to escape predators. If being chased, the player can use the current to their advantage by going in the direction of it to gain some speed (probably only for a moment).
    • As a Crocodile, Hippo, or any animal that has the passive ability of flying over everything, the player is immune to the river's current. The player can use this to their advantage by going against the river's current as they will not be affected, while the player's predator will be slowed down unless the predator also is immune to the current.
  • When looking to farm some food sources, the player can go the end of either of the horizontal rivers, as food will wash up there and collectively amount to a lot of XP.
