Skins are features in Mope.io that affect how an animal appears while being used in-game. They are purely for aesthetic purposes. Customized skins and Classic skins can be accessed by purchasing them in the Store with coins. If the player is logged out of their account, the default skin that will appear for their own animal they play as will be ultra high-definition skins. However, the Store-bought skins of other logged-in players will be visible for everyone.
All skins that have ever been implemented can generally be categorized into these categories:[note 1]
Oldest skins (they can be seen if animal images is toggled off, and generally appear as colored circles with minimal detail. Until October 29, 2016, these were the default skins of the game).
Classic skins (also referred to as Legacy skins; the default in-game skins for all animals until the "#GoldenAge" update on December 23, 2019, most were replaced by the high-definition skins until they were restored as a Store deal).
Winter skins (also referred to as Christmas skins; there are different skins for 2016 and 2022; the 2016 skins ae currently inaccessible).
Zombie skins (exclusive to the Zombie Infection game mode; currently inaccessible).
High-definition skins (first added in the "#GoldenAge" update for most animals to replace the Classic skins, they were replaced by ultra high-definition skins; currently inaccessible).
Ultra high-definition skins (currently the default skin for logged-out players, they replaced high-definition skins as of the "Season 2" update on February 1, 2022)
Customized Store skins (also referred to as premium skins or just Store skins). There are also subcategories of customized Store skins based on updates in which they were added in:
Locked skins.
Golden skins.
Gold Trim skins.
Halloween skins (themed update; there are different Halloween skins for 2020, 2021 and 2022; the 2020 Halloween skins are no longer available).
Storefront skins.
Summer skins (themed update; there are different skins for 2021 and 2022).
May 2022 skins (small Store update).
Christmas skins (minor Store update).
Valentine's skins (themed update).
The above categories are displayed below when applied to the skins of the Mouse:[note 2]

It should additionally be noted:
Not all animals have purchasable skins in the Store. The Shop skins are for display only, and have no added bonus from purchasing them.
The Snowman, The Snowgirl and The Bigfoot have been confirmed to be completely different animals rather than simply skins, and are the only animals whose rarity is decreased through purchase from the Store.
To access the oldest skins, the player must go to the settings and select No animal images.
Below is a comprehensive list with tables of skins as of February 13, 2023. These skins are categorized by the lowest price first (starting at "FREE!" if applicable), then lowest tier first, biome from the order Land, Volcano, Ocean, Arctic, and Desert, and finally by the position in the Store.
Golden Skins[]
These skins were added into the Shop after the "#GoldenAge" update of December 23, 2019. The Golden skins were originally available to buy individually, but as of the Summer Update the only way to obtain them is by purchasing the discount Golden skins Deal, which buys all the skins at once. The costs below applied to individual skins prior to the Summer Update.
Locked Skins, also sometimes called the Golden Age skins, were added in the same update as the Golden skins. Like the Golden skins, these skins were available to buy individually before the Summer Update of July 30, 2021, but can now only be bought all at once through the discount Locked skins Deal. The costs below applied to individual skins prior to the Summer Update.
These skins were added in the Storefront Update on May 22, 2021, giving them their name. This update marks the first time free skins were added, alongside skins requiring Coins.
Halloween Skins are categorized Skins that are usually released near the day of Halloween; October 31.
2020[]
This group of skins were introduced across multiple updates from October 23 to November 4, 2020. In the Mini Winter Update on December 31, all 2020 skins were bundled into two bulk Deals, making the skins not individually purchasable. Finally, in the July 30, 2021 Summer Update, the deals were removed. Because of this, the 2020 Halloween skins cannot currently be bought in the Store. Any Halloween skins bought beforehand (either in the Deals or separately) are still usable.
On October 25, 2021, 30 more Halloween Skins were added, but the 2020 Halloween Skins have not been returned. Unlike the 2020 Halloween Skins, some are free to purchase, but most are not. Certain skins are based on the "Season 2" skins introduced on February 1, 2022, which was in the works at the time.
The first 9 of these Halloween Skins were added to the Store on October 21, 2022, with 13 more being introduced on October 27. According to the developers, they were initially created around the time that the 2021 Halloween Skins were created.
An unnamed Black Dragon skin was included in the October 27 changelog entry and is accessible in the game files,[1] but for an unknown reason was not released in-game and cannot be purchased in the Store.
Summer Skins are categorized Skins that are released sometime during the season of summer for the Northern Hemisphere (June, July and August). So far, most of the summer skins have been released in July. However, some summer skins were added in early August/late July.
2021[]
These skins were added in the Summer Update on July 30, 2021. According to the Changelog, they would be available for buying through August and September 2021 only but have not been removed from the Store as of yet. They will remain usable forever if purchased.
10 more Summer Skins were added on July 12, 2022, though they did not have an official changelog entry for the update. The Giant Squid was removed from the batch shortly after these Skins were added, but was reinstated to the Store with its original price on September 21.
Valentine's Skins are 8 skins that were added on February 13, 2023 to celebrate Valentine's Day the day after it. Notably, they all cost the same (19999 mopecoins) and start with "Valentine".
Promo Skins, or Promotional Skins, are skins that are added in recognition of a special event or occurrence in the Mope.io community.
The first Promo Skin was added in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Addicting Games' foundation, on September 21, 2022. While the Giant Squid was re-added in the same update and potentially for the same purpose, it is considered a 2022 Summer Skin rather than a Promo Skin.
The Apes.io Gorilla was added on October 24, 2023 to promote the io game Apes.io.
The Gold Trim Skins are separated into 4 deals, with the Land and Ocean deals being implemented on October 19, 2020, and the Desert and Arctic deals being added on October 21. Each costs 10500 Mopecoins (formerly 25000), a total of 42000 for all 4 deals, and corresponding to a respective biome: Land, Ocean, Arctic, and Desert. Most animals in the biome's food chain up to tier 12 have a part of the usual skin golden, but not entirely like the Golden Skins. Depending on the animal, there may be other differences as well.
Currently, the Forest animals do not have Gold Trim skins. The Gold Trim skins are based on the high-definition skins rather than the current ultra high-definition skins.
Also known as Legacy skins, Classic skins are part of a bundle deal released in the Storefront Update on May 22, 2021, priced at 19999 mopecoins. This group of skins are classified as the first detailed iteration of every animal in the game (excluding the very first ones and the images that appeared with the "no animal images" setting). All skins that pre-date the "#GoldenAge" update on December 23, 2019 are considered Classic skins (generally skins added between October 29, 2016 ā December 22, 2019), and after that time were unable to be used in-game until they were re-added in the Storefront update as a bundle skin deal. The Raven, Kakapo, The Bigfoot, The Snowman and The Snowgirl are exceptions to this, however, as their Classic skins were added after the "#GoldenAge" update but before the "Season 2" update on February 1, 2022.
All animal's default High-definition skins were updated to Ultra High-definition skins.
Animals whose skins were not affected by the Classic Skins Bundle due to their first skins being their current ones(such as the Cassowary and Pterodactyl) now exhibit their older skin(Season 1 skins) when the pack is enabled. All other animals that were affected prior to this update stay the same.
Legacy skins up to added to replace Oldest animal skins.
Trivia[]
Before the Store and Accounts were added, players would use Custom Redirects or extensions to make an Animal look different. However, they were purely client-side; unable to be seen by other players.
The animals to have the most custom Store skins are the three dragons; the Dragon, Black Dragon, and King Dragon (if the skins of Species is included, the Toucan has the most skins overall).
According to Shaun Goodwin, the smaller text on the Squishy Dragon, Squishy Kraken, and Squishy Yeti's tag reads "uwu owo uwu" repeatedly as an easter egg. King of Agario wanted something else to be put instead.[3]
Also according to Shaun, the Squishy Dragon was the first squishy apex skin and has a different palette to more resemble a pool toy.[4]
Footnotes[]
Notes[]
āSome animals have skins that were added in between the time period that is considered when naming their skins (see here for more info). For instance, the Raven's Classic skin was added after "#GoldenAge" update, but before the "Season 2" update, making its Classic skin an outlier era-wise.
āThe Mouse does not have a May 2022 skin, a 2022 Halloween skin, a Christmas skin, or a Valentine's skin.
